Celebrating the life of

Carol Ann Mangiero

March 02, 1956 - November 23, 2025

Carol Ann Mangiero

Carol Ann Mangiero, 69, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2025, after a lengthy illness that she fought with amazing strength and dignity.  She was born in Staten Island, New York, to the late Edward C. and Noreen Mangiero. Carol was a communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.  She was a graduate of New York University and received her MBA from St. John’s University in New York.

Carol moved to Savannah, GA, in 1987, where she worked as an accountant until her retirement. It was then that she found a post-retirement opportunity that she loved and found enormously fulfilling – teaching English to foreign students in an online setting.  Carol was truly admired by her students and delighted in helping them hone their English-speaking skills.

Carol was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend.  She was always ready with a book to read to the youngest of her loved ones.  Carol also cherished the friends she made throughout her lifetime.  Some of the most cherished are from her Staten Island school days.

Preceding Carol in death were her parents and her younger sister, Susan Mangiero Alverson.  She is survived by her sister Gail Barndollar (Michael), her brother Edward Mangiero (Lori), her maternal uncle Rev. Monsignor Walter A. Birkle, her nephews and nieces and her many loving cousins.

The family would like to thank her doctors and their staff, particularly Drs. Paul Bradley, Kent Woo, James Lindley, and Masood Ahmed for their compassionate care. A heartfelt thanks goes out to the entire staff at Azalealand Nursing Home who lovingly supported Carol in her rehabilitation and then her final illness, always treating her with love, compassion and dignity.  We offer special thanks to Father Michael Kavanaugh for providing spiritual and emotional support to Carol and her family, and loving thanks to all of Carol’s amazing friends who encouraged her, prayed for her, and who ended up becoming very special friends to Gail and Ed as well.

Funeral services will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church; arrangements are pending.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 7020 Concord Road, Savannah, GA 31410, or the Arthritis Foundation, P.O. Box 96280, Washington, DC 20077
